Lapel pins are made from metal
Stainless Steel, Copper or Pewter
The metal of the lapel pin requires a plating. The plating is a protective process of adding a thin layer of metal plating to enhance and protect the pin.
During the manufacturing process of a lapel pin, the pin is either die-cast or die struck, This process creates raised levels and recessed levels of the lapel pin.
The entire lapel pin is plated. Now depending on the style of lapel pin, you order, the recessed areas of the pin will receive an enamel colour. Unless you have ordered a lapel pin that will just be plated and no enamel colour added.
There are also many styles of lapel pins. No matter which lapel pin style you select, they all require a plating, unless you require a raw pewter pin.
LAPEL PIN ARTWORK
A black and white version of the final artwork of your lapel pin is used to make the die. This die is used to stamp out the details of the lapel pin.
- The black areas of the lapel pin design are the raised elements of the lapel pin.
- The white areas of the lapel pin design are either frosted or filled with colour (enamels).

The image above shows the lapel pin that is produced from the artwork provided. You can see how the black elements from the artwork on the left are now raised metal. Leaving the white areas recessed.
